Seasons of Goals

One of the hard truths I have learned is that goals have seasons, and I cant do everything at once. Unfortunately, I cant lose fat and put on muscle rapidly. Both take time and both hinder each other. I cant powerlift 700+lbs and run a full marathon where I am now. So, I did the uncomfortable thing and asked myself some questions.

I asked myself if it was more important to me to lose weight or do a powerlifting meet. I asked myself if it was more import to properly fuel my body instead of risking getting hurt. As I write these questions, the answers are obvious. But they werent for me at first.

But I did get a pretty obvious answer that I really wanted to do a powerlifting meet. Sweet!! I love having a clear goal because it’s easier to work for. I will be spending now until Mid-November training for the powerlifting meet, getting stronger, and fueling my body. A non-negotiable even with 6-8 weeks of full international travel will be at least 2 HARD lifting sessions per week.

And oh my, that will take us through the rest of this year, which means, I get to start looking at 2024 goals. As someone who loves goals, I love this and it is so exciting.

I am planning on doing a trail marathon in Colorado the first part of June, 2024. Which means, as soon as powerlifting season is over, we will be moving back to a running season and I cannot be more excited. I am excited to continue my love affair with running and seeing what my body can do.

After that, I think I will be ready for a weight loss season. But I am training so hard for the powerlifting season and running season, that should I train equally hard for the weightloss season? I think so. So I am going to start preparing now. I am going to track all my food to get a baseline. I am going to create a list of things that I can do to support my body that have nothing to do with weight. I am going to put all my favorite recipes or hack meals together. I am going to do body image journaling and look into cravings. I am going to work on checking in with myself and understanding what I want. I think the season of training for weightloss will be an insightful one for me.

I am really excited to focus on a seasons approach. I am excited to see what my body can do.

You are incredibly capable and I would love to hear about your season! Tell me about them @mypersistenceproject on instagram!
