How I find my hikes!
Hi my wanna-be-outdoorsy friends! I love to hike, but especially when I was first starting hiking (and even now), I found it hard to find trials. So here are my best tips to find a great trail for you!
https://www.alltrails.com/ The $36 a year for the premium version is 100% worth it. It allows you to download the map, so you can use the map offline. It is also crowdsources, so you can look at the comments to see if there are any recent comments about conditions. I find this is super helpful, because people will comment if it is buggy, if there is still snow, the best way to find the trailhead, etc. Pro tip: use the filter! It can get overwhelming to see all the trails, so use the filter to filter down to the mileage range you want, type of trail, etc.
Visitor Center/Park Rangers: To be 100% honest, sometimes alltrails can get overwhelming for me when I am in a new area. Especially a decently populated one like Arkansas. So, I have found targeting something like a State Park, is a good way to start. Then when I get in, I head to the visitor center for a map and a chat with the Park Ranger. Usually they will have the insight into the best hikes for you!
https://www.hikingproject.com/ A good alternative to alltrails by REI. To be 100% honest, I am an alltrails enthusiast, but will check this if I cant find what I am looking for
Blogs! I have found there are some really good articles online that give you a ton of insight. A little planning goes a long way, so read some blogs and get familiar with the area!
