How I Find Gyms While Traveling

I am a an agriculture engineer, and I have to be where the equipment and crop is. Which means, I travel a lot for work. I mean a LOT. I had 270 nights last year in hotels. However, creating a solid and meaningful fitness routine has been super important to me. And I have done it! Here’s how I find fun gyms!

First, I start out on apple maps when I book my hotel. I find out which gyms are close. I look at them and see if I recognize them. I know I don’t like Planet Fitness (their day passes are expensive and they only have smith machines), but I don’t mind LA Fitness’s. So sometimes I can find a gym right there and then.

If I am in a small town or I don’t know about the gym, I will google it and look at pictures. Usually I can deduce if they have a barbell and day passes (or week or month to month depending how long I am in the area) from the websites. If all is well, I will head out and get a good gym sesh in

However, if I am not sure about something, and I don’t want to show up and have it be closed (or not during staffed hours, etc.), I'll give them a quick call! Usually people are really helpful and nice. Ask about day passes, week passes, and month-to-month. I have found day passes are extremely expensive most places ($20-40 PER DAY), but usually their week passes will be less than 2-3 day passes.

Another hack I have found is that most day passes are good for 24 hours! So go a little later one day and a little earlier the next and get two workouts in for the price of one.
